Chapter 4: The Missing Footage
Karen refused to provide the footage voluntarily.
She claimed the camera had stopped recording before the incident.
But Officer Grant obtained the necessary authorization to review the system.
When the footage was examined, something unexpected appeared.
The camera had not stopped.
It had continued recording.
The video showed Karen alone on the patio.
She was visibly angry.
She walked toward the sliding door carrying the umbrella.
She struck the glass once.
Then again.
Daniel entered the frame only afterward.
The footage captured his shocked reaction.
It captured Karen pointing the umbrella at him.
And it captured the moment she accused him of destroying the door.
There was no ambiguity about who had broken the glass.
But the footage revealed another detail that mattered even more.
Before Daniel arrived, Karen had been arguing with someone on the phone.
The audio was faint, but clear enough to establish that the dispute had not started with Daniel.
Officer Grant later learned that Karen had been involved in a separate disagreement with the property management company about repairs.
The broken door had become part of a larger dispute.
Karen had apparently wanted someone else to pay for the damage.
Daniel suddenly understood why she had tried to blame him.
He had simply been in the wrong place at the wrong moment.
But there was still a question.
Why had Karen chosen him?
The answer came from an old maintenance record.
Daniel’s company had previously repaired the patio door.
Karen had complained about the repair several weeks earlier.
She already knew his name.
She knew he worked for the contractor.
And when she saw him arrive after the glass broke, she had an easy target.
The truth was becoming clearer.
