Chapter 7: The Truth Behind the Threat

The final piece came from an old letter.

Margaret had written it shortly before her death.

Daniel found it inside the wooden cabinet in her sewing room.

It wasn’t about the contractor.

It wasn’t about the property.

It was about the house itself.

Margaret had written that she wanted Daniel to keep the sewing room untouched until he was ready to let go.

She had known he would eventually move.

She simply wanted one room to remain hers for a little longer.

Daniel sat on the floor reading the letter.

For weeks, he had treated the room as unfinished business.

Now he understood why it had been so difficult to pack.

The stranger’s intrusion had forced him to look at something deeper than property records.

Someone had crossed into the one part of the house Daniel had been protecting emotionally, even if he hadn’t known how to explain it.

The legal dispute was eventually settled through the proper channels.

Bell’s old claims had no effect on Daniel’s ownership.

The contractor’s records were handed to the attorney.

Michael agreed to provide a written account of who had instructed him and why.

Daniel never recovered the feeling that his privacy was completely untouched.

But he did regain something else.

Control.

The garage sale resumed two weeks later.

The lamp was no longer for sale.

Neither was the sewing machine.

Neither were several of Margaret’s photographs.

Daniel kept those things.

Everything else could go.
